Parking 1 to 2 km away from hotel is significantly easier, cheaper, less stressful than trying to maneuver into tight city-center streets and parking spaces.
Park on street around here (default route is to Rúa da Volta do Castro), here, or here (not point targets, watch for white zones along final 100 meters +/- of route)
Navigate first to approximately: Rúa da Volta do Castro, Santiago de Compostela (default route) and scout the quieter residential streets around these linked areas:
- Rúa da Volta do Castro here or continue west into Vidán if no open spot immediately found
- Rúa da Cantaleta here (link as above)
- Travesía da Choupana (not so good)
- The southern and western ends of Rúa de Sempre en Galiza here (link as above)
This area lies west–southwest of Santa Marta and has broader access than the historic center. It is near the hospital complex, however, so spaces closest to Avenida de Barcelona and the hospitals will be heavily competed for at 10-11:00 a.m. So go away from the hospital entrances, toward the lower-density residential edge south and southwest of Rúa da Volta do Castro per links and beyond.
Look for:
- White-painted spaces
- Unpainted legal curbside spaces (?)
- Open gravel or compacted-surface lots that clearly have public access
- No resident-only, time-limit, market-day or temporary-event signs
Avoid assuming that an apparently vacant gravel parcel is public. Some are private development sites or hospital-related land, and online maps rarely establish whether overnight parking is authorized. The hospital lot is listed as operating only 7:00–19:00 so that won’t work.
Perhaps a fallback option is a specified public gravel lot here (42.870802, -8.564086). Regard this as a provisional free lot, not specifically as a dependable 25-hour option, only because GhatGPT had not found current confirmation that overnight parking remains permitted in October 2026. It could not verify from an official source that leaving a car there for 25 hours overnight is expressly permitted. It may also be full at 10-11:00 a.m. on a weekday.
Taxi:
Expect about 2.5+ km, 10–15 minutes by taxi one-way, roughly €8–€12, possibly somewhat more on a Sunday, holiday or nighttime tariff
Uber might work but taxi might be better:
